A visit to Rainbow Centre in preparation for SAAA SG50 Charity Golf Tournament

On 7 July, SAAA@Singapore Executive Council and staff visited the Rainbow Centre in preparation for the SAAA SG50 Charity Golf Tournament. This was to better understand on the programmes and services provided at the Campus, as well as to learn about these children with special needs.

Rainbow Centre is a registered charity with the Registry of Societies and an Institution of a Public Character under the Charities Act. It serves infants, children and youths with a diverse range of special developmental and learning needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and multiple disabilities. Two Special Education (SPED) schools are currently running for students aged 7- 18 years old and two Early Intervention Programme (EIP) centres for children 2 months to 6 years old, at two campuses — Margaret Drive and Yishun Park.

The brief yet insightful tour around the campus revealed the daily struggles these special needs students faced. The difficulties in motion, the constant company of a guardian to supervise and monitor medicine intake, as well as the uncertainty in the youths’ future career prospects. This visit had certainly been a very meaningful experience and it served as an excellent motivational drive for both parties to collaborate, plan and work hard to see the upcoming SG50 Charity Golf Tournament come to fruition in October.
